Masie - Old Age can be a Drag - film screening
As a special tribute to David Raven AKA Maisie, the Two Brewers will be screening the award winning documentary, Maisie, with kind permission by its producer; Lee Cooper. The evening will also feature a later performance by Lola Lasagne.
Maisie is an award winning film documentary, which follows the countdown to David/Maisie 85th birthday. The film also features Miss Jason, a close friend to Maisie and a performer taken from us too soon.
David Raven AKA Maisie passed away on 11th March 2025, leaving behind a mighty legacy and a void that cannot be filled. Their contribution to the scene is immeasurable, from performing as part of the legendary Trollettes in hidden gay bars when it was illegal to be gay, to his solo career, which spanned decades in both the drag scene and the theatre.
The special contribution from David (god help you if you called David “Maisie’ out of costume) is that he stood as an artist and was proud to be so. Maisie was David’s artistic creation as a performer and he viewed his drag performance and creation as important as any he performed in theatre. This was revolutionary at the time.
All proceeds from the tickets will be given to The Beacon in Brighton, a charity that Maisie was a patron of and who looked after Maisie’s partner and Miss Jason during their life - and guests have an option of £5 or £6 donation
